Gay Men and Cancer
Gay men smoke at a rate double that of the general population – and that can increase not only the risk of lung cancer, but the risk of colon and anal cancer. Prostate cancer is also one of the leading cancers among all men.
HOW TO BEAT THE ODDS.
- Know your family history.
- Get a preventative physical every year.
- Come out to your healthcare provider.
- Ask your healthcare provider for an HPV (human papillomavirus) test, which screens for anal cancer.
- If you are experiencing any symptoms or changes in your body, see your healthcare provider.

- Maintain a healthy weight.
