On Saturday, November 10, 2018, Brianna Titone attended and spoke at the Youth Trans Visibility March & Rally, organized by youth in the The Center's Rainbow Alley program. That evening, she received a call from her opponent, Vicki Pyne, conceding the race for Colorado HD-27, making Brianna Titone the first openly-transgender person elected to the Colorado Legislature.

On Saturday night, Brianna Titone, a Democrat running for Colorado’s House District 27, received a phone call from her opponent, Republican Vicki Pyne, conceding what had been a very close race for the CO HD-27 seat. As a result, Brianna Titone now becomes the first openly-transgender person to be elected to the Colorado Legislature.

In a historic election, a record-number of LGBTQ candidates were elected to office in the 2018 midterms. What was initially dubbed the “Rainbow Wave” on election night has now turned into more of a tsunami, as over 150 LGBTQ-identified candidates have been elected to all levels of government across the country.

The Center is proud to serve our community in a state that values equality and has a long history of LGBTQ activism. With last week’s election of Jared Polis, the country’s first openly-gay Governor, and Brianna Titone’s election as the first openly-transgender person to the Colorado Legislature, the voters in Colorado have sent a message that what a candidate stands for is what matters the most.

We continue to believe that our communities can thrive when our elected officials represent all of us, not just some of us. We congratulate Brianna Titone on her historic victory for the transgender community and celebrate the widespread gains in visibility that the LGBTQ community made in this election.
